Today I had a few moment to surf the web since we are getting rain here in Southwestern, PA and came across the following about a new sitcom to premire on Fox TV this fall:
In the ‘90s, the local TV news scene in Pittsburgh was dominated by one team: CHUCK DARLING (Kelsey Grammer, “Frasier,” “Cheers”) and KELLY CARR (Patricia Heaton, “Everybody Loves Raymond”). They had that elusive quality all news teams need: chemistry ... at least on-screen. Off-screen, Chuck was a bit of a self-centered womanizer, Kelly a bit of an uptight know-it-all. So when Chuck got the call to move up to a larger market, no tears were shed. But after an embarrassing on-air tirade ended up on the Internet, Chuck found himself on the downswing career-wise. He even questioned whether his lifestyle of chasing women and living in hotels was as exciting as it used to be. So when he got the call to return to Pittsburgh, to reunite with Kelly and try to take the newscast back to No. 1, it was an offer he couldn’t refuse. Back in Pittsburgh, Chuck has a new coworker in RYAN CHURCH (Josh Gad, “Mary and Joe”), the overstressed news director. There are also familiar faces like MARSH McGINLEY (Fred Willard, “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “Best in Show’), the affable, endlessly inappropriate sports anchor, and GARY CREZYZEWSKI, pronounced Kre-shoov-ski (Ty Burrell, “In Good Company,” “Out of Practice”), the perennially put-upon field reporter who always seems to get left out in the snow. But, mostly, there’s Kelly, now a single mom to 10-year-old GRACIE (Laura Marano, “Without a Trace”). There was magic between them once. Can they find it again?
BACK TO YOU is created, written and executive-produced by Steven Levitan (“Just Shoot Me!,” “Frasier,” “Wings”) and Christopher Lloyd (“Frasier,” “The Golden Girls”).

What strikes me funny is that once again the high and mighty TV industry is poking fun at PITTSBURGH, PA. One thing they keep forgetting is that the 'Burgh is not a podunk TV market like Altoona or Johnstown. It is number 24th and just 25 years ago it was 13th. The reason the market numbers change have nothing to do with the quality of programming but the number of people living in that demographic area. Pittsburgh has lost a large amount of people since the steel industry colapsed and the mines have closed. It had nothing to do with the quality of TV or Radio programming that some would like you to believe.
This new program BACK TO YOU follows the downhill slide of CHUCK DARLING returning to where he supposedly got his start in the 'Burgh and he is returning to his humble roots and return to a TV station full of misfits. For example the computer geek NEWS DIRECTOR who is over weight and is over stressed, MARSH McGINLEY the Sports Anchor that still get nervous and throws up prior to going on the air and then the WEATHER GIRL who is just a pretty face.
What bothers me about this whole situation is that Pittsburgh has many qualified and non neurotic TV and Radio personalities. Why can't we focus on the quality of work they produce? Because it is not funny.
